Triton Fountain

The Triton Fountain, giving its name to the square where it is located, is a symbol of the entrance to Valletta. It was unveiled in 1959 and remains one of Malta’s most important modernist landmarks.

It is a reference to the connection the city, having been built on a peninsula, has to the sea. The fountain is designed such that all three faces of the mythological creatures are visible from the city gate.

The monument had undergone a period of neglect and damage, and was renovated and officially inaugurated in January 2018.
